Best Time To Plant Spring Bulbs

What better way to welcome Spring than to show off your beautiful flowers that you planted. Spring flowering bulbs are one of the easiest plants to grow. If you are careful during the planting process than you will be rewarded with many years of beautiful flowers.

So when do you plant Spring flowering bulbs? That answer depends on where you live and what the climate is like. Bulbs will need to spend many weeks in the ground in order for their root system to grow and spread. This must be done before the ground freezes making it impossible for them.

Of course you do not want to plant them too early making them sprout above the ground too early. This will deplete the energy that they have stored and that will help it to get through the winter months.

So gardeners in the coldest areas should plant their bulbs in late August and September. Gardeners in the slightly less cooler areas should wait until the temperatures start to dip in September and can continue until early November. Bulbs planted in the warmest climates obviously aren’t going to get a chilling period, so these rules don’t apply.
